The SDG Impact Lab runs six-month fellowship programmes that start at the beginning of Hilary Term for graduate students across the university. The fellowship involves a two- and half-hour commitment one evening a week during Hilary and Trinity Terms, culminating in a four-week long ‘Field Lab’ experience after Trinity Term. The fellowship combines practical training in business skills and the UN’s SDGs, while conducting research that leads to real world impact.

The programme is funded by easyJet holidays (eJh) who are looking at how they can implement projects that make the tourism industry more sustainable. Last year was our inaugural year and it was very successful. We had a cohort of twenty graduate students drawn from across the university and from very diverse backgrounds: humanities students, engineers, social scientists, biologists, public policy masters, and many others. At the end of the Fellowship the cohort had researched and developed a set of seven implementable SDG projects for eJh to take forward.  And just as importantly, the Fellows all came away with a set of new skills to use in their onward careers and a great experience in working directly with business.

We want to make this next year even bigger, ensuring applications from graduate students right across the university. Applications for the fellowship will be opening in mid-October and closing in mid-November.
